Mark A. Muscatello,
54, a Fanwood resident and son of the late Union County Superior Court Judge Richard P. Muscatello, passed away on Oct. 23, 2009, at his home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will be held privately. Mark was born Dec. 30, 1954, to Gloria (nee Gibilisco) and Richard P. Muscatello. He attended Seton Hall Prep in South Orange. During his career in the Sheriff's Office Mark volunteered to search the wreckage from the World Trade Center attacks that had been moved to the Fresh Kills landfill in Staten Island. Birthed from that experience, Mark was moved to express his feelings through his art and wrote the song "Memorial Day" which was performed at the candlelight vigil for 9/11 victims in 2002 at Echo Lake Park in Mountainside. Before his career as a sheriff's officer Mark spent many years traveling around New Jersey as a singer and guitarist. In 1979 he came out with an independent label in Roselle Park. Besides his own DJ business Mark was an all-around athlete. He was a third degree black belt, an avid golfer, a competitive tennis player and participated in many police and fireman charity boxing tournaments. He also spent many days boating at Round Valley. Mark leaves behind his loving mother, Gloria; two loving sisters, Donna Pagano and her husband, Frank, and Lisa Brennan and her husband, Michael; three nephews, Brian Pagano and Michael Brennan and his wife, Jillian, and Matthew Brennan; his niece, Julianne Brennan; his dog, Mel, and many devoted friends.
